Musical Robot: Justin Bieber, Bon Jovi and Motorhead
Justin Bieber releases “Pray” single, Bon Jovi’s Live on Air hits shelves and Motorhead gives us The World is Yours album today.
It is that time of year when the new music releases are slowing down. This week is always a slow one because Christmas has passed, but people are still traveling and making plans for New Years. There are a few things that hit the stores this week (Justin Bieber, Bon Jovi, Motorhead) though so let’s take a look at what is new in music this week.
Motorhead is still going strong. They formed in 1975 and their newest album The World is Yours continues to bring that same hard driving, in your face metal that has made them famous and a favorite of heavy metal/hard rock fans for more than three decades. This album finds Lemmy and the crew up to many of their old tricks, but also maybe musing about age and changing. Lemmy has found success and now he wonders if maybe the trappings of that success have affected him in a negative way. There was a lot of drama surrounding the recording of this record including the poor health of some of the band members and passing of Phil Campbell’s father and that emotion bleeds into the music. Motorhead has been around 35 years and they sound as good today as ever.
Live on Air is the new Bon Jovi live album. These guys have also been around for a long time and have put out live albums before. Earlier this month Bon Jovi released a greatest hits album and Live on Air could almost be considered a companion piece to it as this live album covers many of their biggest hits. Bon Jovi is a very good live band and here they have done a good job of capturing the energy and excitement of their live shows.
Also this week there are a bunch of new singles from different artists. Many of these can be bought as CD singles which usually have bonus tracks or you can get them in online stores. Among the singles are: Justin Bieber with his new song “Pray.” The CD version contains a second acoustic track called “U Smile.” Ke$hsa had a new single “We R Who We R.” Kylie Minogue gets in on the action with her single “Better Than Today.” X-Factor winner Matt Cardle releases his debut single “When We Collide.” For those who are unfamiliar with X-Factor it is the British version of American Idol with some twists. Simon Cowell is actually bringing the show to the US in the fall. Matt is a good singer with a powerful voice. It will be interesting to see what direction his career takes him in.
Also releasing this week is a Dio live album called Dio-The Legend: live. For those who are vinyl fans Kanye West’s masterpiece My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy also comes out this week in a limited edition 3 LP set. If you like techno, Swedish House Mafia have a box set of sorts that mixes CDs with Vinyl. It is called Unit One. Both it and the Kanye album are fairly expensive, but I thought I should mention them for the collectors and hardcore fans.
That about wraps it up, see you next week.
