Monday Night Football: Will Saints Beat Falcons in Week 16?

falcons saints mnfMatt Ryan (Atlanta Falcons) takes on Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints) tonight for Monday Night Football on ESPN.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall was a hit movie that starred Kristin Bell, Mila Kunis and Russell Brand. Tonight that phrase takes on  whole new meaning as recently engaged Atlanta Falcons star quarterback Matt Ryan tries to put his new fiancée Sarah Marshall out of his mind long enough to focus on the New Orleans Saints for the Monday Night Football matchup.  Ryan has been involved with Marshall for seven years now. He met her at Boston College where she played basketball and he was QB of the football team. They have recently gotten engaged and plan to marry sometime in the offseason.

But tonight for the Monday Night Football match-up she should be the furthest thing from his mind. The Saints are not in a good mood. They lost their last game and are out to prove not only are they still the reigning and defending Super Bowl champs, but also that they can go on the road in a hostile environment and win. There has been talk all week of the “soft” Falcons secondary that Drew Brees should demolish and there is still the question of who will win the division up in the air. In their last meeting the Falcons won the game in overtime. If the Saints want any chance of winning their division and a possible first round bye they must win tonight.  While the New Orleans Saints have a lot that they are playing for the Atlanta Falcons simply want to show that they are no longer the new kid on the block and that they can play with anyone in the league. A win tonight would guarantee them the division and would also lock up a first round bye. They are undefeated at home and if they win tonight should be able to secure home field throughout the playoffs.

On the turf of the Georgia Dome with two high flying offenses and defenses that are good, but not great, this one could be a barn burner. The Saints seem to be getting healthy just at the right time.  Reggie Bush seems to finally be fully recovered from his broken leg or what I like to call his “reality star girl curse injury.” I have a theory that NFL players that date reality stars end up having bad things happen to them. Kim Kardashian broke up with Reggie and almost immediately he broke his leg in a game. He seems to be back and getting more and more looks in the offense.

Matt Ryan shouldn’t have that same problem. His new fiancée is not a reality TV star, nor does she seem interested in being in the spotlight. Since he has been with her for seven years I get the feeling she is a calming influence on him and that she is with him for the right reasons, not just because he is a rich, famous NFL player. I look for him to put her out of his mind for a little while and have a very good game. Who’s going to win? The odds makers have Atlanta Falcons by 3. I think Ryan, or “Matty Ice” as they call him, will keep them in the game, but I think tonight on Monday Night Football Drew Brees shows him how it is done and the New Orleans Saints win a very close game.

Tune in for the Saints vs. Falcons on Monday Night Football at 8:30|7:30c on ESPN.
