Warner Bros. and Other Record Labels Sue Porn Company Reality Kings

reality kingsMusic Industry giants Warner Bros., are one of a handful of record labels that are suing porn company Reality Kings for copyright infringement.

It seems as if porn giants RK Netmedia, aka Reality Kings are fixed in the sights of some of the music industries major record labels. Warner Bros., Bad Boy, Elektra and Atlantic are just a few of the 11 record labels filing suit.

The Record Labels are suing RealityKings.com (NSFW) for “copyright infringement of the most blatant and offensive kind.” While filming their pornographic content, it seems like Reality Kings used both the songs and the titles of the songs for their own production purposes.

One in particular in Justin Timberlake’s “Sexy Back” which was used in a RK Netmedia production so cleverly titled “Bringing Sexy Back”. Michael Jackson and Katy Perry are two other artists, whose songs were illegally used in the production of porn.

In a recent interview with TMZ, RealityKings.com lawyer, Marc Randazza states: “RK greatly respects the intellectual property rights of others. RK immediately took the videos down, despite its sincerely-held belief that it was within its First Amendment rights, as soon as they received notification of Warner Brothers’ position.”

First Amendment rights or not, these major record labels are out for blood. Disgorgement, punitive damages, an injunction, and maximum statutory damages of $150,000 per copyright violation are the list of demands set forth in the lawsuit.

While the list of violations is 18 pages long and $150,000 per violation can add up rather quickly, I believe RK Netmedia will do just fine.

After all is said and done, RealityKings will probably lose this battle with the huge record labels. Hopefully, after paying out millions of dollars they will have learned there lesson and buy the rights to the songs they use in their porn videos.
