The twilight saga: Eclipse finishes Number 1 over 4th of July Weekend
Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse not only broke box office records at the midnight screening, it became the number 1 movie this 4th of July weekend, banking $82.5 million, finishing a six day opening week with a total of $175.3 million.
Richie Fay, president of domestic distribution for Summit Entertainment stated: “We couldn’t have gotten off to a better start. It’s hard to predict the Fourth of July holiday because it’s so weather-related.” Good thing for Eclipse, there was rain in many parts of the US.
Eclipse is the third installment of the Twilight Saga series written by Stephenie Meyer. It’s based on the love between human, vampire and werewolf.
Eclipse’s Bella Swan played by Kristen Stewart is a human fighting to stay alive during a vampire war that’s about to take place between her beloved vampire family, The Cullens, werewolves and a new breed of human blood sucking vampires led by Victoria (Bryce Dallas), who is seeking revenge for the death of her vampire mate James.
Bella is also caught in a love triangle between her vampire boyfriend Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and best friend, werewolf, Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), having to decide if her heart belongs forever with Edward or Jacob.
Twilight saga: Eclipse is now showing in Theaters
The fourth and final book of the Twilight series: Breaking Dawn, will be split into two films, with the first part set to debut in theaters on November 18, 2011.
