Richard Avedon Photos Up For Auction

Richard Avedon’s famous fashion photographs will be up for auction later this year. To be blunt, Richard Avedon was one of the most talented, most recognizable fashion photographers of the 20th century. The late fashion photographer covered collections of Dior, designers for Vogue, and Harper’s Bazaar. Avedon is known for capturing the most elegant and playful black and white images of celebrities and models to date, including the Beatles, Malcolm X, and Marilyn Monroe.

Christie’s Auction House revealed the sale will be in Paris on November 20th and should bring in an estimated $6 million. A small photographic print of Marilyn Monroe in a sequined dress taken in 1957 is set to sell for as much as $150,000. “Dovima” is estimated to sell between $500,000-$700,000 alone. The Avedon Foundation is selling the photographs and plans to use all proceeds foe an endowment to support photographic education.
