Grammy Nominations 2011: Will Lady Gaga Beat Katy Perry?
Will Lady Gaga beat Eminem for album of the year at the 2011 Grammy’s?
Lady Gaga is having a pretty good week. She is on tour in Europe playing in front of packed houses. She announced at her show in Poland that her new record is done and that she thinks it is great and on the political front it is looking more and more like Don’t Ask Don’t Tell will be reversed. She has been heavily involved in the DATA debate. She even held a rally in support of its repeal and Twittered with Senate Majority Leader Henry Reid about it. Then yesterday she was nominated for six Grammy awards. Among her nominations are: Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Dance Recording.
Lady Gaga has already won two Grammys, but also caused a lot of controversy around last year’s show. Last year she won Best Electronic/Dance Album and Best Dance Recording. She was nominated in some bigger categories like Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Album of the Year, but lost those. While she may have been a long shot in some of those bigger categories, many felt she would be a shoe-in to win Best New Artist. The problem was that she wasn’t nominated. The nomination committee said that because her single “Just Dance” was released the year before that she didn’t qualify as a new artist. So she was never nominated, Zac Brown Band won the Best New Artist Grammy and her fans were up in arms.
This year it is a different story. Lady Gaga is no longer an up and coming artist with a hit song or two. She is now one of the biggest artists in the world with over 15 million albums sold worldwide and a huge, fanatical following. This year she has to be considered one of the favorites for the major Grammy Awards.
Half the fun of nominating Lady Gaga is to see what kind of outrageous outfit she will wear. She wore an all meat dress to the MTV VMAs. Maybe she will break out the all broccoli bikini for the Grammys. Her six nominations tie her for third most this year with Jay-Z, B.oB and Lady Antebellum. I have a feeling she will be taking home at least one of the major Grammys she is nominated for and her fans will forget all about the perceived diss she got when she wasn’t nominated for Best New Artist.
