Dancer Kenny Wormald will star in Footloose remake
Kenny Wormald will star in the remake of 80’s hit movie “Footloose”. The new Footloose will be released in the Spring 2011 from Paramount Pictures.
Dancer Kenny Wormald was cast as the lead role of Ren McCormack, a teen that moves from the city of Chicago to a small town out west and later learns that rock music and dancing are illegal. He rebels with other teens and sets out to abolish the ban. “High School Muscial” star, Zac Efron and “Gossip Girl’s”, Chace Crawford were originally up for the lead role, but both backed out last year. Efron stated: “he wanted to move away from the dancing and music role.”
25-year-old Kenny Wormald is best known for his appearances on the MTV series “Dancelife” and his lead character role as Tommy Anderson in “Center Stage: Turn It Up”. Kenny Wormald, a professional dancer from Boston toured with Justine Timberlake and can also be seen in many hit videos such as Christina Aguilera’s “Candyman”, Nelly Furtado’s “Promiscuous Girl” and a couple of Madonna’s music videos.
The remake of “Footloose” is set to release in the spring of 2011. Actors who will appear along side Kenny Wormald will be “Dancing With The Stars” expert and country singer Julianne Hough, taking the role as Ariel, originally played by Lori Singer. Dennis Quaid is being cast as Reverend Moore, Ariel’s strict father who tries to maintain the town’s ban on dancing, originally played by Jon Lithgow.
This film will be directed by Craig Brewer and produced by Brad Weston, Dylan Sellers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. Brewer stated: “I can promise Footloose fans that I will be true to the spirit of the original film,” but added: “But I still gotta [sic] put my own Southern grit into it and kick it into 2011.”
