Skating With The Stars 2010: Prepare For The Icy Premiere Tonight!

skating with the stars 2010The icy premiere of Skating With The Stars will air tonight after DWTS.

Now that Dancing With the Stars is coming to an end ABC has put together a new reality show that could be a lot of fun. Skating With the Stars takes six celebrities and teaches them how to not just ice skate, but they will be learning how to ice dance and figure skate. Each week they will perform. Think of it as DWTS on ice. SWTS could be a lot of fun and it could be a train wreck.

The six contestants for SWTS are reality show star Bethenny Frankel, champion skier Jonny Moseley, actress Sean Young, teen star Brandon Mychal Smith, daytime TV star Rebecca Budig and rock star Vince Neil. Each celeb will be paired with a skating professional who will teach them how to do the moves as well as help them choreograph their routines.

Some of the competitors have skated in the past, mostly when they were kids on their roller blades/skates so this won’t be the first time they have ever been on ice skates. That means that at least they will be able to stand, but unlike Dancing With the Stars, if you take a wrong step you crash and fall onto the hard, cold, unforgiving ice. It could quickly take a toll on a person’s body.

SWTS will have a panel of judges including two-time Olympian skater Johnny Weir, Choreographer Laurie Ann Gibson and two-time Olympic champion and Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Dick Button. Like DWTS the judges will critique and score the competitors and the viewers will vote for their favorites to keep them on the show.

Hosting the show will be the team of Vernon Kay and Tanith Belbin. Tanith is the most decorated U.S Ice Dancer ever and Vernon is a TV host who is mostly known in the UK.

The exact format of Skating With The Stars is unknown, but it looks like the skaters will be performing in front of a live audience. I have to admit I’m looking forward to this. I think is could be interesting and very funny as we see these stars find out just how hard figure skating is.

Tune in for the Skating With The Stars premiere tonight at 9|8c on ABC.
