AMA 2010: Taylor Swift and a New Kids on the Block Plus Many More
Tonight’s AMA has many performances, look for Taylor Swift and a comeback by New Kids on the Block!
The 2010 American Music Awards or AMAs are all about the fans. The nominees are chosen based on album sales, radio play and other popularity factors and the winners are selected from fan voting via text message and online at the AMA website. Since the fans pick the nominees and the winners you know they want to give them the performers that they want to see. This year’s lineup of performers is stacked and is sure to make a lot of people happy (Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry to name a few).
The potential highlights include Taylor Swift who always seems to break out something special for big shows where the fans are heavily involved, Katy Perry who is riding a wave of success right now and Justin Bieber who has a legion of fanatical followers who will be tuning in to see him do his thing.
The commercials have been really pushing the performance by New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys. To me they are old hat, I was never a fan, but some people might want to relive that moment in time. I’m more interested in seeing Kid Rock who has gone from Detroit rapper to Nashville country crooner and Miley Cyrus who seems to be pushing the boundaries with her new music and causing controversy about whether or not a girl her age should be dressing like this and singing like this. I have a feeling Miley will have hot set. If two years ago you would have told me that Miley and Kid Rock would be on the same show and Miley would likely be the one to do a controversial show I would have laughed my ass off. Dylan was right, the times they are a changing.
The Black Eyed Peas, fresh off being announced as this year’s Super Bowl halftime performer will be performing as will Christina Aguilera who will no doubt be pushing her new movie Burlesque. This is her first real big show since announcing her divorce. It will be interesting to see how she does.
Diddy and Ne-Yo are set to collaborate on a performance and Bon Jovi will be live as well. Pink is also scheduled to sing. It will be fun to see what kind of show she does now that she has announced that she is pregnant. Rounding out the performances will be sets by Usher, Ke$ha, Enrique Iglesias w/Pitbull, Rihanna and Carlos Santana performing with Gavin Rossdale.
In case you weren’t counting that is 16 different live performances. It looks like it is going to be a music packed night. I will be interested in seeing who really performs live and who appears to be lip synching. It could be a fun drinking game. You take a shot if they are lip synching. You might find yourself hammered by the end of the night. Even if they all sing live and you stay sober, it promises to be an action packed fan pleasing night of music and awards.
Tune in Sunday night at 8PM to see it all go down when the 2010 American Music Awards air on ABC.
