Deadliest Catch Tribute To Captain Phil Harris Airs Tonight on Discovery
Beloved Captain of the Cornelia Marie, Phil Harris, 53, died on February 9th, 2010. Harris, best known for his role on the Discovery Channel show, ‘Deadliest Catch’, lost his life after suffering a stroke on January 29th.
Harris, who we have all followed for the 7 seasons ‘Deadliest Catch’ has been around, was not in the best of health. Having previously suffered and survived a blood clot passing through his lungs, Phil remained the dedicated, chain-smoking Captain of his crabbing vessel, the Cornelia Marie.
Apart from being the captain, Harris was also the father to two of his crew members, Jake and Josh Harris. While at times it was tough for Phil to treat his sons as workers, in the end he was happy that he got to spend so much time with them, while doing what he loved, fishing.
In order to pay tribute to the Phil, Discovery Channel has lined up a series of episodes for the remaining ‘Deadliest Catch’ season. Tonight marks the beginning of the tribute series with a glimpse at the stroke Phil suffered on January 29th.
Skipping ahead to the July 6th episode, we will see Phil Harris in the ICU. Phil begins to rally but inevitable he passes away. We will see Captain Phil Harris for the final moments of his life in the ‘Deadliest Catch’ episode airing on July 13th. Immediately following this episode, Discovery will have the “After the Catch” special in which all of the ships’ captains will remember Phil Harris.
Discovery will close out the Captain Phil Harris tribute the two episodes airing on July 20th. The first of the two episodes will be of the crabbing fleet when they first hear the news of Captain Phil Harris’ death. Followed by an episode with never before seen footage of the skipper.
Tune in tonight as Discovery Channel pays tribute to ‘Deadliest Catch’ star, Phil Harris at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
