Sneak Peek: The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter At Universal’s Islands of Adventure
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is set to open next weekend at Universal’s Islands of Adventure but I got the chance to experience it first hand this past Sunday.
Upon entering The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, a new section at Universal Studios Islands of Adeventure, you are immediately struck with all things Harry Potter.
The town in which you are wisped away to is Hogsmeade. A town full of all of the whimsical characters in which you would find in the Harry Potter books and films. From a full sized Hogwarts Express train model, with a living conductor, to the Ollivanders wand experience, Universal pulled out all of the stops to make this new Harry Potter world as close to the books as possible.
I noticed everyone holding frosted mugs containing a beer like substance. My curiosity was peaked as I saw a swarm of people in line around a large beer barrel in the middle of the Hogsmeade Street. It was in fact a line for the infamous Butterbeer, which was introduced in the Harry Potter series.
I immediately got in line, as I had to try out this substance I had heard so much about. I purchased the frozen form (slushy-like consistency) of the Butterbeer because it was so hot out. Upon drinking the rich amber like slushy, I was amazed. In what can only be described as a cross between butterscotch and some sort of cake, the Butterbeer slushy hit the spot.
After touring all of Hogsmeade, it was time to ride the three new rides that were added to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. First on the list was, the Dragon Challenge. Of course anyone that has been to Islands of Adventure prior to the Harry Potter additions, knows that the Dragon Challenge was previously known as the Dueling Dragons. Universal did an amazing job revamping the old roller coaster to accommodate the new Harry Potter theme.
Flight of the Hippogriff was next on the list of new rides but was closed due to technical errors. From what I saw it is more of a kid friendly roller coaster ride in which the cars you are in represent a Hippogriff, the flying horse-eagle from the films.
The time had finally come, I was now standing at the gates to the Hogwarts castle, home to the new ride: Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. Without giving away too much, I will admit that this ride is a one of a kind experience. While you wait in line, you are taken through many different rooms of the Hogwarts castle.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is an action-packed ride full of twists, turns, surprises and of course plenty of magic.
