Scarlett Johansson takes home a Tony
Scarlett Johansson debut on Broadway in “A View From the Bridge” lands her a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play, this past Sunday June 13that the 64th Annual Tony Awards held at the Radio City Music Hall venue in New York City. In her acceptance speech, Johansson thanked her husband Ryan Reynolds, saying, “To my Canadian, whom I live with, Ryan thank you for becoming a theater widower with me.” “Being welcomed into this community has been a dream come true for me. Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to be on Broadway, and here I am,” She also thanked her mother who was seated next to Reynolds, her “incredible family” and her costar in the play Liev Schreiber.
After receiving her Tony, Scarlett Johansson, snuffed the press room. Scarlett only offered a wave as she headed towards the elevator, totally side stepping the usual question and answers of the press room.
In “A View From the Bridge”, Scarlett plays Catherine, an orphaned 17-year old who’s uncle, Schreiber played by Eddie Carbone, is obsessed with her. When her aunt’s two cousins illegally enter the county hoping for a better life in America, Catherine (Johansson) falls in love with one of them, causing her uncle to become jealous and enraged.
Johansson is known for her role as teenager Grace MacLean in the 1998 film “The Horse Whisperer”, which was directed and starred by Robert Redford. The film was a box office hit and grossed $187 million worldwide ($75million in the US). Scarlett’s easily transitioned from teen roles to adult with her part in “Lost in Translation”, she played Charlotte, an abandoned young wife, opposite Bill Murray. The “New York Times” said, “At 18, the actress gets away with playing a 25-year-old woman by using her husky voice to test the level of acidity in the air”.
Scarlett Johansson is married to Ryan Reynolds, the two began dating in 2007 and on May of 2009, it was announced that the two were engaged. On September 27, 2008, Johansson and Reynolds were married in a quiet ceremony in British Columbia.
