Demi Lovato Hops On The Rehab Bandwagon
Demi Lovato Heads to Rehab
Demi Lovato, of Disney Fame has checked herself into rehab according to People.com.
People published reports Tuesday that teen star Demi Lovato checked into a medical center yesterday, after an alleged argument with a dancer triggered an emotional breakdown that led to the decision.
Demi Lovato stars in Disney’s Camp Rock 2 and Sonny With a Chance, and was on tour with tween brother act, The Jonas Brothers. But Demi’s medical admission yesterday forced her to withdraw from the remainder of the show dates.
People.com reports that a source close to Lovato revealed the 18 year old star has battled eating disorders and cutting for “some time.” In the article, the source adds that Demi was also the victim of bullying, and implied that the fight with the tour dancer was simply the final straw that broke a slew of Demi’s existing emotional problems.
In September, People mag pulled an interview with Lovato and in it, Demi says “I wish I had somebody I had to look up to when I was younger to stand up and say, ‘Hey, I have fat days.’
Demi Lovato is too beautiful, talented and young to be dealing this sort of emotional baggage. And although they’ve sent “best wishes” Demi’s way, and publicly supported “Demi’s decision to put her health first,” I can’t help but sneer at Disney’s public “support.” I know Disney shouldn’t be on the hook for Lovato’s mental instability, but, really – being a teenage girl is tough (trust me – it [expletive] sucks) – what do you think happens when you mix maximum exposure with minimum nurturing?
Disney manufactures these kids, so of course they’re wishing Demi well; Demi Lovato is a paycheck for them. I don’t doubt their sincerity, but when you look at former-Disney payroll disasters like Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears, it just breaks your heart a little. It makes me wonder if there aren’t more Demi Lovato’s dealing with this sort of thing.
Pay attention, Disney. If you’re going to continue crafting superhuman teenagers, you better have the psychological support to deal with the human characteristics.
Demi Lovato – please get well soon. You’re beautiful, and I’d love nothing more than to never write about this again. PS – Everyone has fat days.
