Conan Announces Premiere Week Guest Lineup
Conan announces the premiere week guest lineup for his brand new show.
Conan O’Brien has had a busy couple of days. Yesterday he announced that they were broadcasting a live feed from their office for 24 straight hours as well as the name of the show band. Today he announced the line up for his first week back on the air.
After Max Weinberg announced that he would not be joining Conan when his show debuts on TBS in a few weeks Conan quickly promoted Jimmy Vivino to band leader. Vivino has stepped in as the band leader in the past when Weinberg was back touring with Bruce Springsteen. The new band will be named Jimmy Vivino and The Basic Cable Band.
That announcement was quickly followed by the announcement that they would be broadcasting live from the office for 24 hours via webcam. The live cam showed all kinds of interesting things including staff members reading classic literature, people dressed in all kinds of crazy outfits and all kinds of fun, wild antics. Conan and sidekick Andy Richter made several appearances and the live stream was very popular. Conan himself tweeted “If this takes off, it will replace the new show on TBS. “ I have a feeling this feed gave us a preview of some of the characters that will make appearances on the show including a dancing taco and an 80’s Aerobics Bear.
This morning Conan announced the guest line up for his first week. The lineup looks likes this:
- Monday, Nov 8 – First guest poll winner, Seth Rogen and musical guest Jack White.
- Tuesday, Nov 9 – Tom Hanks, Jack McBrayer and musical guest Soundgarden
- Wednesday, Nov 10 – Jon Hamm, Charlyne Yi and musical guest Fistful of Mercy
- Thursday, Nov 11 – Michael Cera, Julie Bowen and comic Jon Dore
The first guest poll winner contest is currently going on at Conan‘s site teamcoco.com where you can vote. He has assembled an eclectic mix of people and supposedly the person who wins the poll will be the first ever guest. Currently leading the pack is Jack Nicholson followed by Lady Gaga in second and the full cast of the live action 2004 Fat Albert movie not including Keenan Thompson is third. Pope Benedict XVI is a very close fourth.
It looks like Conan is already clicking on all cylinders. I hope they can keep this energy up as the show starts in a few weeks. It will be interesting to see just how much of an audience Conan pulls away from Letterman and Leno and if having Conan at 11pm helps improve George Lopez’s ratings at midnight. When Conan hits the air expect him to be more of the Conan O’Brien we knew and loved when he was on at midnight behind Leno. TBS is going to let Conan do pretty much whatever he wants and I have a feeling he will use that freedom to summon up some really funny stuff.
