Patrick Stewart stars in the new/old video game Castlevania: Lords of Shadow that has just been released for the PS3 and Xbox 360.  Widely known for his roles as Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise in the Star Trek: The Next Generation and that other bald guy Professor X from the aptly titled X-men series.    The game was developed by Metal Gear and Zone of Enders creator Kojima Productions and Mercury Steam who were responsible for the debacle that was American McGee Presents: Scrapland.

Castlevania renews and old series that many may remember playing on the original Nintendo Entertainment System(NES).  It’s a far cry from the 2d action platformer but we have to make use of all these new added dimensions and non-frustrating gameplay elements. Patrick Stewart voices one of the clandestine Knights of the Order named Zobeck.  Stewart adds a heavy weight to what is a gaming light affair.  This series reboot takes all the new PS3 and XBOX 360 Technology and combines it with vampires, werewolf’s, and a metal whip sword that would make your local dominatrix green with envy.

This isn’t his first time Stewart took a journey into the digital game environment.  Patrick Stewart was previously seen in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, playing the role of Emperor Uriel Septim.  In addition to these titles Stewart has voiced many other movie to game remakes making him a seasoned veteran alongside a growing number of Hollywood celebrities.

The game has an authentic Castlevania feel.  The metal whip you use swirls around in a direct and wide area fashion.  Werewolves and vampires will wish you never figured out how to make some metal whip thingy work,  which tears the flesh from bone.  The only gripe is it felt a little dated not being able to move the camera around.  I know God of War is the pinnacle of action adventure games but that doesn’t mean improvements can’t be made.  Unless you are a die-hard fan this is probably a really good rental.
