courtney cox splitLong time couple Courtney Cox and David Arquette released a statement Monday confirming they are separating.

Courtney Cox and David Arquette wed in 1999, while Courtney was warming up her TV career, and after the couple co-starred in Scream. The Scream cast was brought back together this summer to film the fourth installment of the horror flick, but sources at E! News suggests trouble may have been brewing on set. What’s more, it seems both Courtney and David foreshadowed the split in recent weeks.

As reported by E! News, Arquette was spotted several weeks ago sans wedding ring. And in an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in September, Courtney Cox laughingly acknowledged being “just on the verge,” when Kimmel suggested she could “barely tolerate David’s antics.” Laughing or not, Arquette’s ringless ring finger, and Cox’s public acknowledgment of his immaturity were pretty glaring indications of the Cox Arquette split.

I guess things were as awkward as we always thought they were with these two. It was only a matter of time before Cox grew weary of Arquette’s fart jokes, and Arquette was surely emotionally confused by Cox’s face of Botox stone. It was reported as far back as last November by People Magazine that signs of the Cox Arquette split were evident on the set Cougar Town (Courtney Cox’s ABC later-in-life sitcom in which we’re led to believe Sarasota women are all 40-something and hot). The show shut down production while Courtney attended to a “private family matter.”  Courtney Cox or the show never specifically addressed the family matter, but it seems it all came out anyway. In a statement released by the un-couple Monday, Cox and Arquette confirmed their “…trial separation dates back for some time.” The couple has a 6-year old daughter, and in their statement say they’ll remain “responsible parents,” and will stay best friends. (You know, like they probably should have chosen to be 11 years ago.)
