Kim Kardashian Tweets Her Way Past 5 Million Twitter Followers
Kim Kardashian has joined the 5 million followers on Twitter club.
With the following tweet Kim Kardashian celebrated a monumental moment, “I really don’t know how to thank my over 5 million twitter friends! This is such a mind-blowing feeling! I can’t believe it! I love u so much.” You read that correctly. Kim Kardashian has passed the 5 million mark for followers on Twitter.
Think about that and let it soak in for a minute. There are 5 million people out there who wish to follow Kim Kardashian around on her day-to-day activities and hear all her random thoughts.
Now let’s give it some perspective. Kim is now #7 in the top 100 most followed people on Twitter. The only people with more followers than Kim are (in order) Ellen DeGeneres, Barack Obama, Justin Bieber, Ashton Kutcher, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga. The list of people with fewer followers is just as impressive. Kim Kardashian has more followers than Oprah, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Ryan Seacrest, CNN, 50 Cent, Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake and Twitter. Yes, Kim Kardashian has more followers than Twitter’s own Twitter! She has nearly twice as many as Paris Hilton, Jimmy Fallon, The New York Times and Google.
I know her show on E! is popular, but I have to admit I’m actually stunned by this. Somehow Kim Kardashian has turned a sex tape and a spread in Playboy into a mini empire of sorts. I’m not sure if I should be impressed by this achievement or greatly troubled at where our society is heading. Everyone else in the top 20 is famous for a reason. While you or I may not personally care for them, there is no denying that these people have achieved some real success in their fields. Kim Kardashian is mostly famous for being famous. I know she has a clothing line and other products, but she got those because she became famous of being famous and that initial fame came from her friendship with Paris Hilton as well as her decision to release her sex tape to the public. Kim, if she were famous for something, would have to be famous for being shameless. I don’t begrudge her, if the public wants to consume whatever it is she is selling, more power to her. It just troubles me when someone who has really done nothing is this famous. Call me old fashioned, but when I was a kid people were famous because they were good at something. I guess in the modern era looking good nude counts as being good for something.
I wonder how far Kim can climb on the Twitter top 100; She only needs about 300,000 to pass Ellen and 500,000 to pass Obama and Justin Bieber. From there it will take some real work. She is a million behind Britney Spears and over 1.6 million behind Lady Gaga. Maybe a few “accidental” up skirt shots without any underwear will give the bump she needs to move into the top five.
Enough with my rant, back to OPB and the literary journal I was reading . . . oh, who am I kidding? I’m not reading anything educational; I’m doing searches for Kim Kardashian bikini pictures.
