Golden Girls Actress Rue McClanahan Dies at Age 76
Manager Barbara Lawrence confirmed the death of McClanahan who suffered a massive stroke this morning at a hospital in New York. In a statement given to PEOPLE, here is what Barbara had to say: “She passed away at 1am this morning. She had a massive stroke. (McClanahan) had her family with her. She went in peace.”
Rue was by far the most memorable Golden girl with her character Blanche, not being afraid to say what was on her mind. She definitely brought sex talk into the equation and was quite the comical one of the bunch. I know people don’t want to listen to old ladies talk about sex but Blanche did it in a way that was entertaining.
Times have been tough over the past few years for die hard Golden Girls fans as they have been dying off one by one. In 2008 Estelle Getty (Sophia) died, 2009 brought the death of Bea Arthur (Dorothy) and now Rue McClanahan (Blanche) has passed away.
The only surviving Golden Girl is Betty White (Rose) who expressed: Rue’s death “hurts more than I ever thought”. Keep on ticking Betty as you are the sole survivor of the Golden Girls legacy.
Golden Girls can still be seen on television from time to time. The original series ran on NBC from 1985-1992. Of course they also sell all of the seasons on DVD so you can relive all of your favorite Golden Girls moments.
