Bindi Irwin: Remembering Dad as DWTS continues
Bindi Irwin may be beginning a new chapter in her life on Dancing with the Stars, but she won’t be forgetting one important figure who’s tragically no longer in her life.
The DWTS participant wrote a touching memorial to her late Dad Steve Irwin, of Crocodile Hunter fame, last weekend as the ninth anniversary of the death of the conservationist, TV personality and wildlife expert rolled round.
She wrote on Instagram along with a photo of her Dad:
“Father’s Day is today in Australia, and everyone is celebrating at Australia Zoo. This day means such a lot to me. My heart forever lives @AustraliaZoo – just like Dad’s always did.”
The sad part is that Bindi was only eight when it happened, after Irwin, aged 44, was stabbed in the chest by a barb from a stingray on the Great Barrier Reef. Just a couple weeks later, she won hearts at his memorial service at Australia Zoo with a courageous, sweet speech.
And in the years since, she has been an active and outspoken campaigner for animals and helped continue her father’s work.
Now still only 17, the teen has been paired up with professional dance partner Derek Hough, who has already gushed about what a special partner he has in Bindi.
She makes her DWTS debut on September 14 on ABC. You go, girl!
