Bindi Irwin confirms for Season 21 of Dancing with the Stars
She’s the teenage daughter of the late Steve Irwin of Crocodile Hunter fame. Now Bindi Irwin, 17, has been officially confirmed as the first celebrity taking part in ABC’s upcoming 21st season of Dancing with the Stars.
The teen said in a Good Morning America interview: “This is totally different to anything I have ever done!”
She added she was “honored” to be joining the show.
Certainly, she must be far more used to handling crocs than pro dancing partners, and had just been on a crocodile research trip in northern Queensland, Australia.
“I’m nervous,” she admitted. “The judges scare me more than crocodiles.”
Bindi was only eight when her father Steve Irwin was killed in a stingray attack off the Australian coast. She lives with her mom, Teri, and younger brother Robert in the grounds of Australia Zoo.
She plans to relocate temporarily to LA while filming the hoofing show.
Past mirror ball champs including Derek Hough, Mark Ballas and Karina Smirnioff are among the pro dancers who will be competing in Season 21.
But Londoner Len Goodman is leaving the judging panel after 20 seasons due to other commitments.
A spokesman said: “I’m sure we’ll see him in the ballroom again before long. Meanwhile, we are planning on having some great guest judges for some shows, alongside Julianne (Hough), Bruno (Tonioli), and Carrie Ann (Inaba).”
DWTS kicks off at 8pm on Monday Sept 14, on ABC.
