“Queen of Versailles” Jackie Siegel defends drink and photos at daughter’s funeral

Questions over judgment: Siegel appeared to capture the somber moment when her daughter's casket was being placed into the hearse with her cameraphone

Jackie Siegel has suffered an online backlash after taking pictures at her daughter’s funeral while clutching a takeaway drink. Her choice of outfit has also come in for criticism.

However, the 49-year-old has defended herself, saying via a spokesman that she is “grieving” and “crying a lot”. And, after all, everyone deals with grief in their own way.

Victoria Siegel was just 18 when she was found dead earlier this month, from a suspected drug overdose, two weeks after leaving rehab. Investigations are ongoing into the death of the teen, who featured in Celebrity Wife Swap and the documentary about her parents, Queen of Versailles.

A family spokesman said she had been grappling with an addiction to prescribed meds first given to her for seizures during childhood.

Now Jackie has been branded “tacky” for taking a photo of her daughter’s casket at the funeral with her phone in one hand and a drink in the other, as the casket was being placed in the hearse. Others were quick to criticise her appearance – Siegel wore a short black dress with a plunging neckline to the funeral, held at St Luke’s United Methodist Church, Orlando, Florida.

What do you think? Tacky? Or not for us to judge given that as their family spokesman said, this has been a terrible tragedy, and “there is no manual that tells us how to grieve.”
