Survivor producer guilty of murdering wife
Former reality TV producer Bruce Beresford-Redman has been sentenced to 12 years in prison having been found guilty of the murder of his wife during a Mexican beach holiday at the Moon Palace Resort, Cancun, almost five years ago.
The 43-year-old former Survivor producer who was Emmy nominated and also credited as co-creator and executive producer of MTV’s Pimp My Ride, was sentenced in Mexico. It was here that he went with wife Monica Burgos Beresford-Redman, who was 42, in 2010 in a bid to save the marriage after a she had learned he’d been unfaithful to her.
The couple had two children, who were both present at the sentencing.
Monica’s body was found within 80 years of the hotel where they were staying, in a sewer cistern. Bersford-Redman has always denied killing his wife. He claimed she hadn’t gone back to the hotel after going shopping alone on the day she died.
Meanwhile, a lawyer for the Burgos family said: “Nothing can bring Monica back, but we can finally say she has received the justice she deserved.”
Beresford-Redman was extradited to Mexico in 2012, and stood trial soon after arriving there.
The case included statements from guests at the hotel, who claimed hearing loud cries and arguing on the night Monica went missing. Her ex-husband’s lawyers insist the sounds came from Beresford-Redman and his kids, who were playing noisy games.
He says there is no forensic evidence to prove he had murdered Monica, and that he will be appealing.
