Reality of TV Wealth: Howard Stern and Simon Cowell are top Forbes earners
X Factor founder Simon Cowell and America’s Got Talent judge and ‘shock jock’ Howard Stern were together named America’s highest earning TV personalities in Forbes poll.
Both men earned some $95m in the year to June, Brit Cowell taking the top spot even though Fox axed the US version of the hit (and miss?) singing show after he left both X Factor and America’s Got Talent.
While chat show host and comedian Ellen De Generes came sixth, Scottish chef Gordon Ramsay, who hosts the reality show Hell’s Kitchen USA, was placed ninth with an entertainment income placed at $47m.
Other reality high earners include Judge Judy Sheindlin, who hosts courtroom drama show Judge Judy, with earnings of just under $50m.
Simon Cowell is currently on the British version of X Factor’s judging panel, where all his acts went through in the live shows last weekend. The media and music mogul also owns record label and media production house Syco, which gets a cut from the earning of every winner on the show.
For his part, Stern is a successful writer and producer as well as a host, and is estimated to earn some $15m a year for appearing on America’s Got Talent alone.
