We’re sad to announce that reality TV star Joanne Borgella has passed away aged just 32 following a fight with cancer.

The singer and model died early on Saturday morning, a year after a diagnosis of endometrial cancer.

On her Facebook page, a message from her family read: “With heavy hearts, we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Joanne.

“Since her diagnosis, she chose to be a fighter and share her journey with the world. Her faith, courage and strength were unshaken through every obstacle she encountered. We know her spirit still shines.”

Borgella became famous as a contestant on crooning show American Idol in 2008, finishing in the top 24 in what was Season 7. She then appeared in other shows including MADE, Mo’Niques-Fat Chance and Curvy Girls.

At the same time, she got a lot of work as a plus-size model, appearing in a number of campaigns for high profile names such as Wal-Mart and Kohls, while continuing to perform as a singer.

We’re truly sorry to bring you this news, and thinking of her family at this difficult time.
