Sex Box: Is Reality TV about to reach a new low?
The cable network WE has greenlit the show Sex Box which, as the title suggests, will feature couples getting intimate on set – in a box.
The program is adapted from a British series of the same name, first shown on the UK’s Channel 4 station.
What happens is that couples chat about their relationships first of all, with a panel of experts, before retiring to a soundproofed box, where of course there are no cameras. The experts will continue talking about them while they are inside, and mulling over their initial impressions.
Once they’ve emerged, the couple will then be expected to discuss the experience. The body’s natural release of the “cuddle hormone” oxytocin in the immediate wake of intercourse is meant to make couples therapy especially effective and powerful after sex.
Season one of Sex Box is set to feature nine hour-long eps, which are planned to be aired early next year.
So what do you think? A new low for reality TV? Or a refreshingly honest and frank way to talk about an important, intimate aspect of our lives?
