Phaedra Parks: Husband Gets Jail Term for Fraud
Apollo Nida, the husband of Real Housewives of Atlanta star Phaedra Parks, has received an eight-year jail sentence after he pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges on May 6.
The 35-year-old must also pay restitution to victims of his $2.3m money laundering scheme.
The court heard how Nida and those he was working with had been stealing checks since 2009, and used the stolen identities of their victims to submit false tax returns and wrongful claims against the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Authorities added that the group also opened bank accounts in their victims’ names so they could launder money.
A source close to Parks, 40, has told a journalist: “Phaedra knew this was coming so it’s hardly a surprise. But she is worried about her sons, Ayden and Dylan, growing up without their dad.
“Dylan is just over a year old, Ayden hasn’t entered kindergarten yet, so they will not have their father during some of the most precious years of their lives.
“Right now she’s embarrassed, but she’ll be OK.”
While the maximum jail sentence could have been 30 years, Nida’s team argued the term down on the ground that: “His lengthy but small-time criminal history is not in the same league as other far more serious offenders.”
