New Kids on Reality TV: Meet all the Wahlberg Family
While Mark Wahlberg is, of course, a huge movie star and brother Donnie is known for his work in TV and in the music industry, you may not have heard of the family chef, 49-year-old Paul.
But all that changed yesterday evening, when Wahlburgers premiered on A&E, from 10.30pm ET/PT.
Paul, the fifth of the family’s nine children, runs the family eatery Wahlburgers in Hingham, Mass, and now it’s his turn to experience a little of the limelight.
The show seems to be part of a growing trend in reality TV for stars and family members to share their family life on the small screen.
Bruno Mars’s sisters did a season called The Lylas for WeTV, while singer Toni Braxton did Braxton Family Values for the same network, spawning the spinoff Tamar and Vince about the singer/actress and her husband.
It seems that not everyone can handle the fame, however. While these shows have worked well for the likes of the Kardashians and the Robertsons (of Duck Dynasty), when Clint Eastwood and wife Dina split after making Mrs Eastwood and Company for E! the show was widely reported as having driven a wedge between them. And Sharon Osbourne has described her family’s famous reality show as the “biggest mistake” of her life.
While the same fate befall the Boston-based Walhbergs? Only time will tell!
For his part, a relaxed Paul Wahlberg thinks little will change – while Donnie, 44, says: “I’m not worried about showing too much of our personal lives – it’s only a slice of life not my whole life.”
Wahlburgers continues on A&E.
