New MTV Virgins Reality TV Series on Way
Yep, it sounds a little bizarre to us as well, but we have it on good authority that MTV has ordered 12 eps of a new docu-soap reality show which follows the lives of a group of young people who have decided to hang on to their virginity.
The program doesn’t have a title yet, but its stars are aged 18 to 25 and are followed as they navigate their love lives, complete with parental sex talks, friends who are sexually active, and the pressure they feel to succumb to their temptations.
The show will also incorporate messages from the channel’s It’s Your (Sex) Life campaign, which aims to empower young people to make better decisions about their sexual health.
The season of 60-minute reality shows will be produced by Endemol USA, and the project, if nothing else, is bound to generate a lot of discussion.
And it marks a departure from the prospective reality series it sent out a casting notice for last year, My First, which sought young people about to lose their virginity. The idea generated quite a lot of online controversy and was dropped. In the current project, those featured may or may not make the decision to have sex for the first time.
The show will be broadcast across the US – we’ll be keeping an eye out with interest.
