By now I am sure you have heard that Celebrity Deaths always come in 3’s. This week that myth has come try once again as Tony Curtis (85), Greg Giraldo (44) and Arthur Penn (88) have all died.

The first Celebrity to bite the dust this week was Arthur Penn who died on Tuesday night due to heart failure at the age of 88. Arthur Penn is mainly recognized for his film “Bonnie and Clyde.” While Arthur Penn’s “Bonnie and Clyde” was created in 1967, it forever changed American cinema. For the time period in which Penn released Bonnie and Clyde, it was a very envelope pushing, overly bloody film. While many people may not appreciate the 1967 version of “Bonnie and Clyde” today, Arthur Penn will forever be associated with its success.

The last two of the celebrity deaths (Greg Giraldo and Tony Curtis) happened one day after Arthur Penn on Wednesday night. Let’s talk about Actor Tony Curtis who died Wednesday night due to cardiac arrest at the age of 85. For us young folks, myself included, I have never even heard of Tony Curtis. It is said that he is most famous for the 1959 movie “Some Like It Hot” which starred Jack Lemmon and the ever-so-famous Marilyn Monroe. It is said that The American Film Institute has named “Some Like It” Hot as the No.1 screen comedy to ever be made. I guess taking that to the grave is not a bad thing for actor Tony Curtis.

For the final celebrity that died this week we will look at Greg Giraldo. Now Tony Curtis and Arthur Penn lived long lives, both reaching 80+ years old before they kicked the bucket. The same cannot be said for Greg Giraldo who died Wednesday night from a drug overdose. The young comedian Greg Giraldo was only 44 years old, which is far too young for someone to pass away. It is said that the young comedian overdosed on prescription drugs. In case you are not familiar with Greg Giraldo, he was a judge on the hit show Last Comic Standing. Giraldo toured the country with his stand-up comedy routine and was quite successful.

Death is no laughing matter and while it may just be a coincidence that Celebrity deaths always come in 3’s it is still a sad time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of Tony Curtis, Greg Giraldo and Arthur Penn.
