Sub-titling for new Saturdays Show
London-based Anglo-Irish girl group The Saturdays is to get its own reality show in the US. And it’s been reported that there will be subtitling to make the girls’ accents easier to understand.
Called Chasing the Saturdays, the show seems them trying to crack the US market, and the sections which US viewers could struggle with will apparently be subtitled.
A source told a UK newspaper: “The show is fun, and dramatic, but it’s unlikely that everyone in America will be able to understand what the members of the band are saying. Their British and Irish accents just aren’t understood by some Americans.”
For example, one of the scenes apparently involving subtitling is an emotional exchange between group members Una Healy and Frankie Sandford, where the latter says: “I just feel like I can’t even do my job anymore.”
The group’s music video for their new single What about Us has been launched this week. The five-strong band formed back in 2007 and has had a string of hit records since then.
