Celebrity Deaths: Jack Kevorkian, James Arness Die (June 3, 2011)
Jack Kevorkian who was commonly referred to as “Dr. Death” has died at the age of 83-years-old. On top of Kevorkian, yet another death shook the celebrity world this morning as James Arness died at the age of 88-years-old too. Just exactly who were Jack Kevorkian and James Arness and what made them famous?
Well, almost everyone knows who Jack Kevorkian is as he is the doctor from Michigan who called attention to his work with assisted suicide. In 1999 Kevorkian was convicted of 2nd degree murder charges for assisting in the death of a terminally ill patient of his. Once paroled, Dr. Jack Kevorkian would no longer practice his assisted suicide methods. Recently, HBO Films released “You Don’t Know Jack” which chronicled the life of Jack Kevorkian who was played by Al Pacino (won Emmy & Golden Globe for his role). Today, “Dr. Death” as he was known met his maker when he died at the age of 83 due to pneumonia and a kidney-related ailment.
James Arness on the other hand did not become famous by killing anyone. James was an actor on the popular TV show, “Gunsmoke.” Arness played Marshal Matt Dillon in the series that went on to become one of the longest running dramas on television. Earlier this morning, a rep for the family confirmed that James Arness had died in his home at the age of 88-years-old.
