He came out of nowhere. One day he was just another guy standing on the side of the road holding a sign hoping for a few dollars in handouts. The next he was seemingly everywhere. There was no escaping Ted Williams. He was the homeless man with the golden voice who suddenly had gone from being a panhandler to being the voice of Kraft and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The story will cover his early life growing up in New York, his service in the U.S. Army and his starting what appeared to be a very normal, typical life as he found a job at a Columbus, Ohio radio station and started a family.

While his life seemed normal to most, Ted Williams was wrestling with some inner demons that led him to alcohol and drug abuse which derailed his career and eventually led to this living on the streets.  Williams would be homeless for several years until that fateful day when Doral Chenoweth, a videographer for a Columbus newspaper, shot video of Williams doing a station ID. His voice is so amazing coming out of the body and face of the homeless guy standing on the street corner that many people thought it was a joke or a YouTube prank. But it wasn’t and that video pulled Williams up off the street and pushed him squarely into the spotlight.

Tonight’s Biography explores Ted Williams’ childhood, early adult life and decent into drug and alcohol abuse. It will also cover his meteoric rise to fame and the problems and pressures that were placed on him with that.
