Dancing With The Stars 2011: Kirstie Alley Beats Chelsea Kane!
It all comes down to this on Dancing with the Stars. One night, three dancers and six dances are all that are left before a champion is crowned. Of the original 11 contestants the three remaining finalists are: Hines Ward, Chelsea Kane and Kirstie Alley. All three took different paths to get here and all three badly want to win.
Kirstie Alley has to be the dark horse in this group of three. When her name was announced a lot of people scoffed. She danced well early and shocked a lot people, but after a public feud with George Lopez, a fall, a lost shoe and constant head butting with her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy it looked like she might not be around long. But she hung in there, persevered and won the judges over. I have said all along that they have been easier on her than other contestants, but nevertheless she is here in the finals and ready to give it her all.
Chelsea Kane came out of nowhere in this competition. She was the young Disney star that most people didn’t know. While it was clear that Kendra Wilkinson and Petra Nemcova were meant to the be the babes of the season, it wasn’t long before Chelsea Kane was setting herself apart from them and showing that not only was she a very good dancer, but she was likely this season’s hottie. She never flaunted it and has a very girl next door kind of charm to her that has endeared her to the audience and helped carry her into the finals.
I think a lot of people thought Hines Ward might do well, but maybe not this well. There is a long tradition now of athletes doing well on Dancing with the Stars and right away he showed that he intended to carry that tradition on. By week 2 he was on top of the leaderboard. He would hold that spot for four of the nine weeks. When you factor in the weeks he was in second place Hines has spent eight of the nine weeks in first or second on the leaderboard. Last week his partner Kym Johnson overcame a serious fall and Hines got back to back perfect scores. He is likely the favorite going into tonight’s dances. He has the moves to get high scores and he has legions of NFL fans behind him.
Tonight’s Dancing with the Stars should be a showcase of quality dancing and three contestants going all out to win. After nine intense weeks of rehearsals, injuries, scoring controversies and physical exhaustion, Hines Ward, Kirstie Alley and Chelsea Kane can now see the finish line so you know they won’t be holding anything back.
