Will Glee Season 2 Premiere Live Up To The Hype?

glee season 2 premiereGlee returns with its second season tonight on FOX.

Glee was the from-left-field breakout hit of last year. Nobody expected a musical show about a bunch of nerdy Glee club students to make much noise, but it was quickly embraced by not just the public, but many celebrities and found itself getting more and more popular with each week.

Glee returns for season 2 tonight not as the underdog or the flying-under-the-radar show with little expectations, but as a high profile show that has garnered much media attention and is now to expected to deliver on the promise it has showed in the past. The Glee cast had 25 singles on the chart of the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time last season. That is the most by any artists since the Beatles had 31 songs in the charts in 1964. To say expectations are high would be an understatement.

During the off season there was plenty of news made about who will be guest starring on the show in Glee Season 2 and who’s songs they will be covering. While the producers are keeping things very hush hush about most of the music we do know that there is a Britney Spears episode in which Britney herself guest stars. There will also be a Rock Horror Picture show episode with most of the cast of the original cult classic agreeing to appear and the cast will also cover Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind,” Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire,” and Poison’s “Ever Rose Has Its Thorn.” Expect more Lady Gaga as well with rumors that Glee Season 2 will pay tribute to her song “Telephone.”

It will be interesting to see how they rework these songs and make them their own. McCoy’s “Billionaire” is a sweet, F-bomb laden ode to dreaming about being rich and what you would do with the money. It is the perfect fit for a show about hopes and dreams, but it remains to be seen how they will work around the swear words and keep the song’s heart. So far Glee has scored just about every time they have shot, I’m sure they will figure out how to pull it off.

Here’s to hoping Glee Season 2 keeps the innocence, fun and drama that made it a hit in the first place and doesn’t wilt under the burden of its own expectations.

All you Gleeks out there be sure to tune in tonight as Glee Season 2 will premiere at 8|7c on FOX.
