American Idol 2011: Finalists Sing Hearts Out Live
Being on one of the highest rated TV shows in the country has its perks. Just ask the final 3 remaining contestants on American Idol as the returned home for the first time since going to Hollywood and beginning the competition. The three: Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina and Haley Reinhart were welcomed home as conquering heroes with parades, huge crowds and some very cool surprises.
Scotty McCreery’s home town of Garner, North Carolina opened up the wallet and spent and some $60,000 to throw their welcome home bash for the deep voiced young country singer. More than 30,000 fans gathered to welcome Scotty back and hear him perform live. The town pronounced it “Scotty McCreery Day” and the Scotty’s return included him dropping by the grocery story he used to work at where he joked around with his former fellow employees and showed off his grocery bagging skills. He received the key to the city and then made his way to a local park where he performed a short concert. During the American Idol hometown live show he was joined by Josh Turner for a duet of Turner’s song “Your Man”the song Scotty made famous during his auditions and throughout the early rounds of the competition. The crowd went crazy to hear Scotty and Josh belt out, “Baby, lock them doors and turn the lights down low.”
Lauren Alaina return home found the 16-year-old singer leading a parade through her home town of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. She made a visit to the local Fox affiliate TV station and some other American Idol guest promotional appearances at stores. The parade eventually led her to the high school she attends where she was greeted with a huge banner that professed the school’s support for her. From there a second parade led her to a local park where the mayor gave her the key to the city and she performed a few songs for the gathered fans. Lauren also paid a visit to the nearby city of Ringhold, Georgia which had recently been hit hard by the tornados.
Haley Reinhart’s return to Deer Park, Illinois started with a visit to an At&T store where she signed autographs and talked with about 200 gathered fans. A police escort then led her to her old high school where she met another 400 fans all wearing “Haley” t-shits. After several stops around town she went to the Wheeling Village Hall where she performed a few songs for her fans. The following day brought some dreary, wet weather, but it didn’t dampen the spirits of the 30,000 fast who gathered at Arlington Park to hear her sing. There Haley treated them to several songs and invited her parents on stage so she could thank them for their support.
It sounds like it was a busy weekend for the American Idol Top 3. They had some fun and got to see some friends and family. Now it is back to work as theyHaley Reinhart, Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina sing three songs each tonight with a trip to the finals on the line.
