Celebrity Apprentice 2011 – Final Two Battle Royale

celebrity apprentice finaleLast night (May 15, 2011) on Celebrity Apprentice we saw a quick double firing followed by the final two beginning to tackle their final project.

Who was fired from Celebrity Apprentice? Let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet. As the show started Meat Loaf and Marlee Matlin came back to the waiting room and celebrated moving into the final four with John Rich and Lil Jon. Their celebration was cut short when Donald Trump entered the room and told them that each of them would be interviewed by a panel made up of the last three Celebrity Apprentice winners, Piers Morgan, Joan Rivers and Brett Michaels. After the interview the panel would make their recommendations as to who they felt final two should be and he would then be firing two people.

The interviews went well for most, but Lil Jon made a slip when he was asked who should be in the final two and he named John Rich and Marlee Matlin, not himself. They grilled him on that and he tried to back pedal but he did some damage. They also hit Meat Loaf on his emotions and he played it off like his having near emotional breakdowns is a good thing.

In the Celebrity Apprentice boardroom Lil John’s slip cost him as did Meat Loaf’s emotions. After much praise from Trump they were both fired. Marlee Matlin and John Rich were the final two.

The final challenge was revealed .They would be responsible for putting together a new look and ad campaign including a commercial, a can design, a box design and a launch party for the new 7-UP Retro. Their campaigns will be themed. Marlee gets her pick of two the themes since she has raised the most money this season. She can either have the 70’s and get to use the Harlem Globetrotters or the 80’s and get to use the band Def Leopard. Much to John Rich’s delight she picks the 70’s leaving him with the rock band.

Donald Trump then tells them they will need some help on this task so he brings in six of this season’s contestants that will join the teams and help them out. John Rich picks first. When the picking is over John Rich now has on his team: Lil Jon, Mark McGrath and Star Jones. Marlee’s team has: Meat Loaf, LaToya Jackson and Richard Hatch.

The Celebrity Apprentice teams begin to brainstorm. Both come up with some good ideas for the can design. John Rich’s team goes with a zebra stripe look and Marlee Matlin’s team makes the can look like a disco ball. Meat Loaf seems to be dominating the creative aspects of the project which Richard Hatch doesn’t like, but Marlee seems okay with. As they start the commercials John’s team will go with a theme where they interview potential stand-ins for 80’s iconic rockers. They get a Madonna look alike and an Axl Rose look alike then they get the real Dee Snyder from Twisted Sister. He will audition and do badly, then drink the 7-UP Retro, spin around and be in his full Twisted Sister outfit as he sings the tagline. It seems like a cool idea if they can pull it all off.

Marlee Matlin’s team is doing a shoot where the news 7-UP can is stomping out everything that is bad from the 70’s including a disco dancer, a guy with an afro and the old “Bat Out of Hell” Meat Loaf. They intend to end the commercial with Geoffrey Holder the actor whose deep voice and interesting look was everywhere during the 70’s and made the phrase “Maaavalous!” synonymous with 7-UP.

As the episode of The Celebrity Apprentice comes to an end Holder’s lawyer won’t let him sign the release to be on the show and Meat Loaf nearly explodes with anger. Meanwhile John Rich gets on the phone with Def Leopard’s road manager and has a fight with him because the guy is being very demanding and Rich is trying to explain to him that this isn’t a regular concert, it is for charity so he needs to relax on the demands. As any fan of the Celebrity Apprentice knows, nothing every really goes smoothly.

Next week is the big show as the final two debuts their ads, put on their launch parties and battle it out for the final prize of $250,000 for their charity.
