American Idol 2011 Top 4 Performance Ratings
Once again, Haley Reinhart came out with guns ablaze for her second performance of the night and received a standing ovation from the Idol judges. If you happened to miss American Idol’s top 4 performances, the remaining hopefuls had to sing two songs once again. Their first song choice was an inspirational song and then their second was to be a song by Leiber & Stoller. It was a pretty great night as all four of the contestants sang their hearts out to try and win over America’s vote. What did the American Idol top 4 sing? Who did good and who did bad?
With the American Idol finale only a few weeks away, the competition is definitely heating up. Last night the Idol hopefuls were tasked with singing two songs, one that was an inspiration to them and then one from the songbook of Leiber & Stoller. Here are my personal ratings on the songs that they sang for the first round and then the second round: (ratings based from 1-10 with 10 being the highest)
James Durbin –
“Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey – Not a bad way to start off the show. James keeps proving that he belongs in this competition. The judges loved his first performance of the night and so did I. 7/10
“Love Potion No. 9” – James Durbin delivered a lot of screaming with this performance and what was with the whole pop up stage and fireworks at the end? Can we say favoritism? Nothing against Jame but I don’t agree with what the American Idol producers did there. 8/10
Haley Reinhart –
“The Earth Song” by Michael Jackson – Yikes! I love Haley but this was just not a good performance. She got into it a little bit at the end but I was far from impressed and neither were the judges. 6/10
“I (Who Have Nothing)” by Ben E. King – Go Haley Go!! Amazing. Simply amazing. Haley redeemed her first debacle with this performance and got a standing ovation from the judges. 10/10 (watch now)
Scotty McCreery –
“Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning” by Alan Jackson – Scotty definitely reached out to the hearts of the American people with this American Idol song choice. Despite not being his best performance, it was definitely in his comfort zone. I’m giving him an 8/10 for the emotion he put into the song.
“Young Blood” by The Coaster – Scotty McCreery is a natural born entertainer ladies and gentlemen. Great performance and he worked the stage and crowd like he was putting on his own concert. Steven Tyler said “You Made GaGa’s YaYa go LaLa.” The man is hilarious. Good job Scotty! 8/10
“Anyway” by Martina McBride – Lauren looked absolutely stunning on the stage and she killed it. One of the best performances of the night, hands down. The judges had nothing but good things to say about the performance. 9/10
“Trouble” by Elvis Presley – It really looked like Lauren was having fun with this one. She’s definitely “in it to win it” as Randy Jackson says. Great performance to come after Scotty. The judges liked it a lot as well. 8/10
