jerry leiber mike stollerPerformance predictions for tonight’s (May 11, 2011) “Leiber & Stoller” theme on American Idol.

Tonight worlds collide on American Idol as Lady Gaga steps in as the guest mentor and the final four singers sing songs from song writing legends Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.

Leiber and Stoller wrote some of the biggest hit songs in the world from back in the days of early rock n roll including the legendary “Hound Dog” and “Jailhouse Rock” by Elvis Presley. These two have penned some of the most beloved songs in rock history so it should give the American Idol Top 4 plenty of great songs to choose from.

As you might expect the American Idol producers are being pretty tight lipped about who is singing what song and even what format the show is going to take tonight. Since it is a 90 minute show I would assume each singer will get two different songs to sing. Here are my picks of what I would like to see them do.

Scotty McCreery: He has already done one Elvis song, but I would still like to see him put his country flavor on “Jailhouse Rock.” He could follow that up with the fun “Yakety Yak” which is all but tailor made for his deep voice.

James Durbin: James could once again bring the emotion with “There Goes My Baby.” He could then join Scotty in tackling the Elvis with “Trouble.”

Haley Reinhart:  I would love to see Hailey really show her vulnerable side and do “Stand by Me.” She could then let her hair down and let the diva out as she followed it with “I’m a Woman.”

Lauren Alania: This could be a good week for her because a lot of these songs have an innocence to themt that she could really tap into. She could do a great version of “Love Potion No. 9” then she could join the Elvis parade and do “Fools Fall in Love.”

These are my picks of what I would like to see the Top 4 American Idol contestants sing tonight. Tune in at 8PM on Fox to see them perform and find out how they do and what Lady Gaga has to tell them.
