The Voice Ratings: NBC’s Time Slot Gamble
I have always lived by the age old edict that if it isn’t broke you don’t fix it. If I were NBC I would take that that to heart, but they are rolling the dice with tonight’s episode of The Voice. At the 8PM time slot The Voice dominated in the ratings against some very stiff competition including Glee and the Dancing with the Stars results show. Tonight they mess with that formula and move The Voice to what they are calling its “normal” timeslot at 10PM. Maybe it will work and they will get even better ratings with less intense competition or maybe much of their core audience will be in bed by then.
Aside from the time change there is a lot going on in tonight’s episode of The Voice. Now that the coaches have selected their teams it is time for the battle rounds to begin. In the battle rounds two singers from the same team will face off in the ring and sing the same song. The coach then has to choose one to move on and one to send home.
Add into the mix that the coaches will be bringing in their extra help this week and we have plenty of star power to check out. Blake Shelton brings in country legend Reba McEntire to help him. Christina Aguilera brings in singer-songwriter Sia Fuler as her aid. Adam Levine enlists music producer Adam Blackstone and Cee Lo Green brings in R&B singer Monica. The coaches and their enlisted help will set out to help their team members prepare for these battle rounds so they can put their best foot forward.
Eventually, each coach will cut the size of their team in half and those remaining singers will move on to the live portion of the show where the audience gets to vote. Judging solely on the preview that NBC has released the battle rounds are going to be very tough on the coaches as there are a lot of really good singers here.
It is sure to be an emotional, intense night tonight on The Voice. Tune in at the new time of 10PM on NBC to watch it all go down.
