Dancing With The Stars 2011: Ralph Macchio vs. Kirstie Alley
Last night’s action packed episode of Dancing with the Stars had some good moments and some bad. Each of the dancers had to perform twice. The first dance worked as per normal where the dancers rehearsed and performed their normal way. For the second dance the dancers knew what the dance was, but didn’t find out what music they would dance to until about 20 minutes before actually doing the dance. Needless to say the stress was high as the teams danced under pressure. Some were better than others (Kirstie Alley, Ralph Macchio) so here are this week’s DWTS losers.
Kirstie Alley was not at the bottom of the leaderboard, but I have no idea how that is. Was she better than Romeo? Maybe, but as I watch her I feel like she is in slow motion. Her first dance, the Argentine Tango, was actually pretty good. Her second dance, the salsa, was not very good. The Dancing With The Stars judges told her they liked it because it was slow and rhythmic. Had it been any other dancer they would have likely chastised them for not having enough energy. Still, her score of 53 out of 60 put her in the middle of the pack, but in my eyes she was just not that good this week.
I hate to say it, but Ralph Macchio was the other loser this week. It wasn’t for lack of trying, but simply because of injury. As he started rehearsing his knee just gave out. After a trip to the doctor and an MRI he found out he burst what is called a “baker’s cyst” in his knee. The good news was there was no structural damage, but there was a ton of pain. Instead of their normal 40 hours of rehearsal time Ralph and his partner Karina Smirnoff only rehearsed for nine hours and they didn’t get any time to practice their instant dance the cha-cha-cha. Ralph gutted it up and did his best, but his knee was in bad shape and was not able to do everything he needed to in the dance. His total score was 46 out of 60 and put him in last place.
Ralph Macchio says his knee will heal in a few days so hopefully the voters will keep him around. I could easily see how Romeo could be voted out before Ralph and I thought Kirstie Alley should have gone a few weeks ago. Tune in tonight at 8PM on ABC for the live results show and find out if the fans will get behind Ralph Macchio for another week.
