Lunch Robot: Rotten Tomatoes, Star Wars Day, Osama bin Laden
Today we have a mixed bag of stories going into the lunch robot. The popular movie review website Rotten Tomatoes has been bought by Warner Bros.; so much for non biased reviews! Geeks around the globe are celebrating Star Wars Day today (May 4, 2011) and more conspiracies are being conjured up as a result of the Osama bin Laden death that took place last Sunday.
First and foremost let’s get the grimey Osama bin Laden death news out of the way. Wild accusations are being thrown around that the Navy Seals who shot Osama, captured him alive first and then killed him in front of his family. I believe I have a heart and even if those claims are true; oh well. You do realize Osama bin Laden was the mastermind behind the 9/11 terrorist attacks which killed thousands of Americans, right? The Al Qaeda leader is dead, kudos goes out to the armed forces and President Obama for making is happen. Now everyone needs to stop making crap up, demanding the Osama bin Laden death photo and just move on.
In lighter news, we have two stories pertaining to the movie industry. The first being that Rotten Tomatoes, the online movie review site, has been bought out by Warner Bros. While the official amount of the sale was not mentioned, a rough estimate puts the deal near the $100 million range. WB plans to use the acquisition to further speed up the conquest of on Demand video to rival the streaming kings, Netflix. Keeping with the movies, Star Wars geeks and nerds around the world are celebrating Star Wars Day 2011. Today, George Lucas announced that a Blu-Ray box set of the Star Wars franchise will be released in September! I don’t consider myself a Jedi fan boy but for those that do; May the Fourth be with you! Happy Star Wars Day everyone.
