Ryan Seacrest Pulls a Simon Cowell, Plans New Show
Ryan Seacrest has been a judge on American Idol since the show’s debut. But nowadays, he and Randy Jackson are the only guys left from the original crew. Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez have moved in, giving American Idol a new face and vibe. Now, Ryan Seacrest is looking to move in the direction that Simon Cowell has gone, by masterminding his own show.
While details have not fully emerged, it seems that Ryan Seacrest is preparing to launch his own singing show, on NBC. But don’t be exasperated; Seacrest claims that the show will be quite unlike American Idol, and according to the New York Post, the idea behind it is “a totally different type of competition show.”
Does this mean that Ryan Seacrest is totally done with American Idol? It’s unclear. There hasn’t been an official statement explaining Seacrest’s plans for the future, but Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell appear to have moved on entirely, towards their own personal and professional endeavours. There has even been a rumor that Abdul may work as a judge on Simon Cowell’s American X-Factor series, but this has not been verified.
I can definitely see Seacrest teaming up with Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell in the future. Any animosity between Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest seems to have been for entertainment value, and it would be interesting to see the old American Idol gang working together again.
What are your thoughts on Ryan Seacrest’s decision? Will his new show on NBC tank, or will it be wildly popular?
