Royal Wedding Coverage: Thank God It’s Over!
The end of the Royal madness is finally here. The rumblings started months ago when the royal wedding was announced and have slowly built into a fever pitch as the wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William got closer and closer. Soon it was a full on frenzy with people clamoring for every bit of information they could find. What was her dress going to look like? Where would they honeymoon? What kind of ceremony would they have? Even what would Kate title be once she was married?
All of those questions were answered early Friday morning. For the record the couple will be known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The title was given so that Kate Middleton would not end up with a title that compared her to Prince William’s mother Princess Diana. Of course, eventually, William will take the throne and become king which means Kate will then be Queen.
What I don’t understand is why there was such a Royal wedding fever here in the United States. I can understand it in the U.K., but here in the U.S. we have no real interest in royalty. Our entire country was built upon getting away from a monarchy and while I can understand a passing interest, there has been so much coverage it seems like the U.S. has had its share of fever over this wedding. For the last two weeks it has dominated the news and the last few days you couldn’t go anywhere without seeing information about the royal wedding. Are we in the states really that interested or has this been a case of the news stations overthinking our interest? I personally can’t think of any one person who had more than a passing interest. A few women I know were curious what her dress would like, but beyond that, nobody seemed to care, yet based on the coverage it seems everyone cared.
All I know is that I am glad the Royal wedding coverage madness is finally over. The end is here as the happy couple jets off to their honeymoon where we will be certain to get plenty of paparazzi pictures of them having fun in the sun. The fever has broken and we can now all go back to living our lives and talking about Obama’s birth certificate. I, for one, welcome the return to normalcy and a Royal free life.
