Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina Keep Idol Country!

idol scotty mccreeryScotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina are keeping American Idol country with their southern twang.

Since tonight on American Idol they will be singing solo and doing duets it could be a very interesting night. We have six contestants that all have interesting and unique sounding voices. It may be difficult for them to duet and match up well. The show is being tight lipped about who is performing together so I am making up my own matches and one I would like to see is Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery.

Lauren Alaina is the closest thing to country on the show other than Scotty. She has shown she can sing just about anything and even in non-country songs she can use her Georgia moonshine flavored voice to give it that country and southern feel.  She has energy and a brightness to her that should make doing a duet with her a lot of fun. Add in that she has already done one Carol King son this season and pulled it off well and she might be the most comfortable of the singers this week when it comes to the song choice.

Scotty McCreery is Lauren taken to the extreme. While she has hint of country mixed with rock n roll he is deep, down home, old school country. But he has shown in past weeks that he can bring it up and sing other things. I think his deep, rich voice would be a perfect match for Lauren’s and together they could make something that was really special.

It could be very interesting this week on American Idol for Lauren Alaina. A few weeks back when she did Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb” mentor Jimmy Iovine told Lauren that she was a much better singer than Miley. Then last week he brought in Miley’s producers Rock Mafia to make Lauren uncomfortable and force her to focus. This week Miley herself will be there to help mentor. I’m sure Lauren will feel a little awkward.

Tune in tonight at 8PM on Fox to see it all go down on American Idol.
