lady gaga american idolLady Gaga is gearing up to premiere her brand new music video for “Judas” on American Idol.

Lady Gaga’s latest hit, “Judas” is controversial, but what about Gaga isn’t? It’s Lady Gaga’s controversial style that has made her into the fab star she is today. Controversy gets people talking, and no press is bad press!  “Judas” has been in the news, not only because it is an awesome track, but because it has conservatives up in arms. The reason why some are less than thrilled is because Gaga released “Judas” on Easter, which some viewed as blasphemous.

In related news, the music video for “Judas” will be aired during the first week of May (next week), on American Idol. This is a great move on Lady Gaga’s part, as she will doubtlessly be reaching her target audience and giving the track (and video) plenty of exposure.

Lady Gaga has actually commented on the music video, saying “Well, I want to allow the video to speak for itself, but I will say that the theme of the video and the way I want to aesthetically portray the story was as a motorcycle Fellini movie, where the apostles are revolutionaries in a modern day Jerusalem. And I play Mary Magdalene, leading them into town where we meet Jesus, and I will leave the rest for you to see.”

Based on that little excerpt, it seems like the music video will indeed incite a lot of controversy, especially amongst Christians. It may surprise you to know that Lady Gaga actually used to attend Catholic school! But Gaga also claims that the song and video were not created to offend people. Gaga says, “’Judas’ is a metaphor and an analogy about forgiveness and betrayal and things that haunt you in your life, and how I believe that it’s the darkness in your life that ultimately shines and illuminates the greater light that you have upon you.”

Gaga’s explanation makes sense, but it can be tricky to put forth metaphors in a world where a lot of people prefer to take things literally, and at face value. But it’s clear that Lady Gaga is daring, and not afraid to challenge convention. There is no doubt in my mind that Gaga is a modern day Madonna.
