The Voice Review: American Idol Circus Act
The Voice premiered last night and I have to admit, I enjoyed it immensely; watch out American Idol.
What was my first impression of The Voice? I have to admit I was a little hesitant at first that this was just going to be another horrible American Idol rip off. Oh how I was wrong! The Voice takes Idol’s idea of a reality singing competition, adds spinning chairs that could be a circus ride, four “coaches” that are funny as hell together and creates television gold. Will people understand the concept?
Albeit, last night’s premiere of The Voice was a bit confusing but once you understand the overall concept, it’s a really good idea. The thing I loved most about last night was how well Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine worked together. Watching them sit there and fight over which contestants they would coach was pretty damn funny. Unlike American Idol this season, the “coaches” (not judges) have a damn personality.
I know the ratings for the premiere of The Voice are most likely going to be low but don’t let that fool you. I really think NBC has struck gold here and I believe people will catch on to this great new singing competition. Like I have said before, American Idol is getting rather stale and The Voice can surely steal some of its thunder. Which coach (Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera) will have the contestant that America picks as the winner of The Voice?
If I had to say one bad thing about The Voice it would be that Carson Daly is horrible as a host. Maybe it’s because I have become so accustomed to how well Ryan Seacrest hosts Idol but I just was not feeling Daly. That being said, I can surely learn to like Carson as the show itself is damn good.
The Voice will air on Tuesday nights at 9|8c on NBC so be sure to tune in and check out this brand new singing competition. I assure you, when you watch it for your first time, you will be pleasantly surprised.
