“DWTS” vs. “The Voice” Viewers Poll
ABC is making an interesting power play tonight. NBC is launching its new singing show The Voice staring Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. The Voice airs at 9PM tonight which puts it head to head with the Dancing with the Stars results show. I would bet there will be more than a few people who have an interest in The Voice so they tune in then jump back just to see who is voted off of DWTS. Everyone knows the DWTS stars results show is mostly commercials and filler. Which show will you watch tonight?
ABC is trying to do something about that. For starters they are having a special 2-hour edition of the Dancing With The Stars results show. The first hour is going to feature a review of the season up to now and include footage that has not been seen before. It will also feature music by the band Hanson (who was the special guest band last night). In the second hour we get more music and the show cashes in on some of the tabloid news as it has rumored Mark Ballas girlfriend and American Idol cast off Pia Toscano perform while Mark dances back up. By making this a 2-hour event they are trying to draw the viewers in early and use the big first hour as a lead in to the second hour hoping to keep the viewers’ attention and not have the switch over to see The Voice.
Will it work? It might work to some degree especially if they do it seamlessly. If the just move from one hour to the next without letting you know that has happened some people will lose track of time and just flow with them. There are also a lot of people who will DVR The Voice while watching the DWTS results show.
I think The Voice is an interesting idea for a show and has the potential to get an audience. I just fear that the network put it on at a bad timeslot and now ABC is doing everything in its power to make sure the debut doesn’t go well for them.
Which will you watch? Which will you DVR? The special 2-hour DWTS results show airs at 8PM on ABC while The Voice airs at 9PM on NBC. Tune in and set your DVR’s accordingly.
