scotty mccreery top 7How will country singer Scotty McCreery and the gospel singer Jacob Lusk do on American Idol tonight?

There are probably no contestants in the American Idol top 7 that are more different than Jacob Lusk and Scotty McCreery. Scotty is old school country while Jacob is more of a gospel singer. One has a deep voice and takes the notes low and the other a voice that can hit some very high notes. It should be interesting to see what songs these two decide to do this week. They can pick any song from the 21st century which means they have plenty of choices.

Scotty McCreery has made it pretty clear that he knows who he is and what he does well and he doesn’t plan to change it up much. So far he has impressed every week so I would look for him to do it again. There are plenty of great country songs from the 21st century for Scotty to choose from, but I would love to see him take a little bit of a risk. I think he should do Johnny Cash’s version of “Hurt.” It is a tough song, very different for him, but if he does it well and pulls it off it will slay the audience and the judges will bow down to him.

Jacob Lusk flirted with disaster a few weeks back when he preached to the American Idol audience and was thusly nearly voted out. Jimmy Iovine put him in his place by telling him that nobody wants to be preached to and reminded him he is a nobody who hasn’t even put out a record yet. Jacob reeled in his ego last week and saved himself. This week I would like to see Jacob Lusk finally relax and have fun. Every week it is like a revival with him and it is growing a little old. I would like to see him do something fun that has a little more pop to it. Maybe the Black Eyed Peas “I Gotta Feeling.” It is a simple song, but has some parts in it where he can still show off his voice and maybe a different side of his personality.

I think Scotty McCreery will be safe this week on American Idol. He is as close to a sure thing as there is this season. Jacob Lusk on the other hand might be showing signs of being in trouble. He will need another great performance this week if he wants to avoid the bottom three. Tune in tonight at 8PM on FOX to see who sings what song and how it all goes down.
