American Idol 2011 Top 7 Song List Spoilers

american idol top 7The American Idol 2011 Top 7 will take on songs from the 21st century tonight (April 20, 2011) and here are my song list spoilers.

This should be an interesting week on American Idol. The Top 7 contestants will sing song from the 21st century. This means they can choose any song that has come out since 2000. That leaves things wide open. Who will embrace the challenge and who will follow Paul McDonald on the elimination block?

Something of interest that may or may not affect the singer’s song choices is the rumor that Bruce Springsteen visited the American Idol Top 7 this week. There is no word yet if Bruce just said hi and gave some quick advice or if he will actually be sitting in and acting as a mentor of sorts this week. How strange will it be if Bruce is in the audience watching?

Since the American Idol producers are being very tight lipped about what songs are being performed we can only speculate our own spoilers. If it were left up to me these are the songs that I would love to have them sing:

Casey Abrams – He seems to be able to do anything, but I would like to see him do Everclear’s “Santa Monica.”

Lauren Alaina – She would be a perfect fit for something a little country so I think she will do “Breathe” by Faith Hill.

James Durbin – He has done the heavy metal thing now, but I wouldn’t look for him to change much so I would have him do Green Day’s “Wake Me Up When September Ends.”

Jacob Lusk – He will likely pick some over the top ballad, but it is time for him to lighten up and have some fun. Doing the Black Eyed Peas “I Gotta Feeling” would be a fun choice.

Stefano Langone – He will likely pick an Usher song, but I think it is time for him to lighten up and stop trying to out scream everyone else on American Idol. He should do The Plain White T’s “Hey There Delilah.”

Scotty McCreery – There are a ton of great country songs for him to choose from and I doubt he would waver from what works for him, but I think he would do well doing Johnny Cash’s version of “Hurt.” It would be a ballsy choice, but I think he could pull it off.

Haley Reinhart – She could do something with a rock edge, but I would like to see her hit a little of the country in her voice by doing the Dixie Chicks “Not Ready to Make Nice.”

There you have it. These are my choices for what I think the American Idol Top 7 should sing. Tune in tonight at 8PM on FOX to find out what they sing and how it all works out.

  1. Casey doing Santa Monica would be awesome… Unfortunately that one came out in 1995.. Cannot really think of what I would want him to sing in this category though.

Lauren could do that one, but that was late 1999. I think I can hear her doing either some Kelly Clarkson, or maybe even some Gretchen Wilson… Plus if she does Breathe… I just might hang myself from a ceiling fan lol.

Awesome pick for James Durbin!!! Agree 100% on that one, Although if he wants to take it a bit more upbeat he will do American Idiot most likely, Or he can go a different way with it and maybe take on a little Nickelback.

Jacob Lusk… I dont know why… It may just be how he presents himself but I can hear him do something like a Jennifer Hudson or something like that…

Stefano Langone, just cause Hey there Delilah was over played, I think that he should stay away from that one. I think he will probably do Grenade by Bruno Mars though.

Scotty McCreery, I think that since he slowed it down last week for George Strait, I think that he will either stick to Josh Turner and do Would you go with me or Why don’t we just dance. He might even go with some Brad Paisley.

Haley Reinhart, I think she will try and pull off some Alicia Keys and stick to the more bluesy tone for her voice.

Personally I wish that Paul McDonald was still here this week. I was sort of hoping when we got to a category like this that he would perform one of his Grand Magnolia’s songs… 🙁

Just my two cents on this week 🙂
