american idol top 8The American Idol 2011 Top 8 will take on songs from movies tonight (April 13, 2011) and here are my song list spoilers.

This week on “American Idol” it is Songs from Movies Week. That leaves the number and variety of choices wide open. The final eight singers will have to choose the right song and give the performance of their life. Pia Toscano getting voted out last week sent the message that nobody is truly safe.

As per normal the producers of American Idol 2011 are being tight lipped and keeping rehearsals under tight wraps so we have no advance knowledge (leaks) of what songs people will sing. Here are my selections that I would like to see the American Idol Top 8 sing:

Scotty McCreery:  I would love to see him do George Strait’s “Heartland” from the movie Pure Country. It is an old school kind of country song that should fit him well and allow him to do what he does best.

Jacob Lusk: He needs to relax a little bit and have some fun so I would love to see him do “Theme from Shaft” which was originally done by Isaac Hayes for the movie Shaft. I have a sinking feeling he will end up doing “My Heart Will Go On” From Titanic.

Haley Reinhart: She showed that she has a little rock n’ roll in her last week so this week should could stay in that theme and do Steppenwolf’s “Born to be Wild” from the classic movie Easy Rider.

Lauren Alaina: Lauren has said she loves Aerosmith and that “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” is her parent’s song. All season long different contestants have been flirting with doing an Aerosmith song. Now is the time. It will take some guts to do it in front of Steven, but if anyone can pull it off I think she can.

Casey Abrams: Casey is capable of doing just about anything. I think he is at his best when he is quiet and powerful. The perfect choice for him to do that quiet powerful thing would be “Mad World” from the movie Donnie Darko.

Paul McDonald: Paul has one of those voices that require the right song for it to really work well. I think he is best on the slower more emotional songs. I would have him do “Everything I Do, I Do It for You” from the movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

Stefano Langone:  Stefano can’t help himself. He loves the big melodramatic songs so he might as well embrace it this week and do “Unchained Melody” from Ghost. It is big, over the top and exactly what he is looking for.

James Durbin: When you think about songs from movies there are not a lot of rock songs that come to mind. This could be an interesting week for James. While I think it would be hilarious to see him do “Over the Rainbow” from Annie, I think he should do Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock and Roll” from Risky Business.

These are my picks of what I would like to see the contestants sing this week on American Idol. Tune in Wednesday at 8PM on FOX to see if I am right and to find out who ends up singing what song from a movie.
